Single-Family Home Construction on the Rise in Metro Milwaukee
The housing shortage in metro Milwaukee has spurred a significant increase in single-family home construction, with the number of building permits issued in the four-county area in the first quarter of 2024 soaring by 84% year over year, reaching 633. This growth is driven by a lack of existing housing inventory and a relatively mild winter, according to the Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA). Milwaukee County saw the most substantial increase in new home construction, with permits rising by 164% to 275, primarily in less-developed areas like Oak Creek and Franklin.
